Kolner PERMACOLL SIZE

Kolner PERMACOLL SIZE is a water based metal leaf adhesive size suitable for interior gilding which can be used with all types of metal (brass), aluminium and copper leaf.

There are three types of PERMACOLL SIZE available:

Clear - suitable for going over a coloured undercoat.

Clear HA - (High Active) suitable for heavy or thick leaves of leaf.

Red - traditional red gilders bole colour.

Application: Seal porous surfaces and apply a good even coat (possibly two coats) with a good quality brush so that there is no pooling or excess sitting on the surface. Once applied it should reach a dry tack (similar to sellotape) in around 15 minutes and then it is in its prime state to be gilded on. The size will remain "open" (tacky) for a few days, so be sure to only apply the size to areas you want to gild and allow as long as possible for the size to "cure" before handling the gilded item.

Please note the drying time will depend on the surrounding conditions. If it's cold, it will take longer to reach a dry tack and then fully dry. If its hot, it may dry quicker and not remain "open" as long as desired. Coverage is 10-15 square metres per litre.

Clean brushes with water. All metal, aluminium and copper leaf should be varnished to prevent it from oxidising with Kolner LEAF PROTECT or an oil based clear picture varnish such as Golden MSA Gloss Varnish or similar.
