Genuine Lapis lazuli comes from mineral rock and gives the most precious natural blue. The source of the lapis lazuli impacts its colour which is why there are three lapis types in this set.

• Pigment names: Afghan Lapis, Siberian Lapis and Chilean Lapis

The Afghan lapis is the most historically known blue colour that was used to paint Islamic manuscripts in the 14th and 15th centuries especially during the Timurid period and during the Renaissance period and it was usually used as the cloth of holy Mary to represent her purity.

• The Afghan lapis is a darker blue that speaks to the soul.

• The Siberian lapis is not as finely crushed and it has a grey undertone.

• The Chilean lapis is the brightest of blue of them all and it is a beautiful blue for skies.
